Sorry I can’t embed this video that Linz found for us, but it shows Amy “clogging”.
Butterfly on a Snowboard
I’m baaaack!! Many thanks to Vogue for covering for me while I was away. Once I was back I went through the past couple days of videos embedded on this site from other sites and got versions that everyone should be able to see, including from Derek choreographing GMA’s salute to the Oscars. Enjoy!!
The Derek Hough news is plentiful tonight! Hey, and to top it off more…NEW PICTURES! Check out Just Jared Jr when you can as they have new photos of Derek at LAX getting ready to go to Sochi! There are ten new pics total.
Oh Miss Heidi is going to like this welcome home prezzie.
Hey All! If you head to Brooke Burke Charvet’s Blog, you can read about her dismissal from Dancing With The Stars and the impact it’s had on her. While doing so, she also mentions Derek. Here is a quote talking of the positive change and how she will never forget dancing in the arms of “brilliant Derek Hough”. *awww moment*
In the bigger picture, this is a positive change for me and I honestly believe this is the optimum time for me to dance out of the ballroom.
I had eight (NOT seven, as written everywhere) fabulous seasons co-hosting the show. It was a blast! I made many friends, which I will keep and support in every way. I had the honor to work beside Tom Bergeron, whom I adore and have great respect for. I learned many valuable life lessons and TV skills in the chaos of live television. I am very grateful for my time at DWTS and I’m never greedy – eight seasons was the perfect run. I will always celebrate my coveted Mirrorball trophy and all that it parlayed me into. I’ll never forget dancing in the arms of the brilliant Derek Hough and how he helped me to find the rhythm in my own world.
More at Modern Day Mom which includes a picture of Derek. Thanks to Cath for sending this to us.
Oh my goodness!! Special thanks to Cath for sending this gem!! Just posted a bit ago at the official DWTS Facebook page. Wow, look at those feet go! ~Vogue
USA Today has a new article up saying how Amy and Derek’s rehearsals for Dancing With The Stars begin in Sochi on Friday during downtime. Also below is a take where Amy talks about Dancing With The Stars. Let’s just say….it sounds like she is taking this competition very seriously…and for an important reason. Be sure to read the full article at the link. ~Vogue
Hough is also in Sochi and will begin practicing with Purdy on Friday during her down time. “Obviously, the Paralympics is my No. 1 focus,” Purdy said Thursday. “I think it’s a healthy distraction. It’s easy to think about racing and our competition around the clock. Even when we’re not riding, we come back and we’re visualizing. I think it’s a great distraction to come back (after morning runs), take a little time off, and dance.”
Purdy said she had no idea about the show’s impact until the cast announcement this week. “I was on the bus coming up here to the Olympic Village and I started getting literally like thousands of tweets and emails, and it hasn’t stopped,” she said. “It’s exploded, it’s crazy. For me the timing is perfect. It’s so great that I can be here and represent my country, the sport that I love and other people with disabilities.”
The show, she said, will provide an additional platform. As an advocate as well as an athlete, Purdy hopes there’s increased focus on the abilities, rather than the disabilities, of amputees. “We all have different levels of abilities, whether you’re missing a leg or not missing a leg,” she said. “It’s nice to be able to represent people who deal with obstacles or physical challenges who maybe question what they were capable of.”
With her model runway looks, wry sense of humor – her blog is called “Through the Eyes of a Fembot” – and presumably fancy footwork, Purdy could be a fan favorite. But as an elite athlete, she also wants to be a winner.
“It was funny, I was telling my partner that I didn’t even know what the Mirror Ball Trophy is,” she said recently, “but whatever it is, I’m winning it. If it’s gold, I want to win it.”
The news is starting off a little slow today, but, for fun, here’s a GMA flashback of Derek’s second dance on Good Morning America thanks to Elmari.
As previously reported, if you missed this show in it’s entirety, you can now view it at Good Morning America’s official site at this link.
In other things, People.com has a fun new Dancing With The Stars gallery up of the celebrities with quotes from either them or their partners which is fun to check out too when you get time. Amy’s pic includes a quote from Derek! And does she not have the most beautiful eyes? They remind me of Madonna’s a little!
Also, Yahoo has a cool article up on Amy on why she has the capability to winning Dancing With The Stars. She’s so amazing and with her determination I think she can do anything wants. Here is a take…
For “Dancing With the Stars,” Purdy won’t have to worry about public transportation, and it doesn’t hurt that she’s partnered with five-time mirror-ball champ Derek Hough, who’s undeniably one of the best choreographers in the competition. Everything Hough touches seems to turn to gold ― just ask fellow “DWTS” cast members Meryl Davis and Charlie White, who brought home the first U.S. Olympic gold medal for ice dancing after working with him. And speaking of Davis and White, Hough spent a lot of time helping to choreograph their “My Fair Lady”-themed short dance, so he may have the inside scoop on the duo’s weaknesses.
Viewer votes are a huge part of “Dancing with the Stars,” and America loves an uplifting story. It doesn’t get much more inspiring than Purdy’s.
“I always say snowboarding saved my life,” she told the Huffington Post in a recent interview. “It gave me a reason to focus on the future. … It gave me something to be passionate about.” Indeed, the driven athlete hit the slopes a mere six months after losing her legs, and she continues to look at the positive side of her situation: “I always felt really lucky that I only lost my legs, because it could’ve been so much worse,” she said in a video for Women’s Health.
She’ll need America’s support if she wants to stay in the competition… and if she wants to stay with Hough. The pro announced on Tuesday’s “Good Morning America” that there will be a little twist to the competition this year: At some point, the dancers will switch partners and it will be up to voters who goes to which pros.
Lastly, don’t miss a quote from Charlie White talking on Derek at RealLifeWithJane. Thanks to Elmari for sending this to us.
Charlie: We were so fortunate to be able to work with Derek. He’s a genius. He’s got a sense of what looks good on the dance floor, and he’s a great person to be around. He has wonderful energy and we really try to absorb that and put that feeling of exuberance and the love of dance when we’re out there on the floor at the Olympics. We were able to just chat with him briefly after and say “Thank you so much for being part of our Olympic season victory coming true.” He’s such a nice guy, and he’s always so humble. It was a great thing for us to meet him.
Ok, that is all for now. More later and all the best to Miss Heidi as she travels back home today. ~Vogue xx
Mark the pic below down for the history books again. @DancingABC posted one of Derek and Amy’s first rehearsal pictures at their instagram today. Don’t you just love this?
Also, Today is featuring a new quote from Derek about the Switch up dance. He says it’s going be either a train wreck or a fantastic. I guess we’ll see.
“I suggested (the switch up) a couple of years ago,” Hough, who’s paired with Paralympian snowboarder Amy Purdy, revealed to TODAY. “It’ll be either a train wreck, or it’ll be fantastic. Some (pros) will complain, perhaps, ‘Well, if I had this partner, I could do that.’”
Below is a new segment from Good Morning America today with Derek and Amy! Too awesome for words again. It’s so cool to see them together. You can some them rehearsing as well. Thanks to Cathy and Abby for the heads up. ~Vogue
