Pure Derek Hough

I do believe that this is part opinion and part knowledge, mainly about Hollywood Records and how they operate.  Record labels are a dirty business – I’ve known that for a while (I live in Nashville, duh ), but it’s interesting to read someone who has spent some time analyzing this particular record label.  You might want to read the whole article to get a feel for what he’s talking about. From Teen Entertainment:

Ballas Hough Band originally started in the UK as Almost Amy. Hollywood Records signed them when they moved over to LA and they put out a debut album almost a year ago. Last November, they performed a new single “Move” at Dancing With the Stars (shocker…considering two of their biggest people are in the group). There they stated that they were working on a new CD. Next thing you know, Hollywood Records dropped them because their songs weren’t getting any air play on the radio. Please tell me ANY other Hollywood Records artist that has gotten MAJOR air play? Miley with “The Climb” and some with “Party in the USA” and now Selena with “Naturally”. I can’t think of others…can you? So why were they dropped? I have found that Hollywood Records is very smart with having someone in almost every music genre. When Raven was done, Jordan Pruitt sort of filled her spot. Ballas Hough is gone and now they have…Allstar Weekend? Allstar Weekend isn’t even that good. Ballas Hough was pretty good and they were unique too. Kind of a classy 3OH!3 with some Metro Station mixed together.

Ya know, if they guy wasn’t so freakin’ cute I would be very jealous of all the talent.  Yes, he dances, he sings, he acts, he’s an artist…and he directs music videos. He did one for BHB and he just did one for Mark yesterday. Mark tweeted a picture:

…that Derek Hough is a great singer and should really consider some solo singing projects of his own.  Thanks, Dee, for reminding me that these were out there – this first video in particular showcases how strong, clear and on pitch Derek’s voice is.  Best live vocals in that band – but then I AM biased.  Nicknack109 is the awesome videographer. These have probably been posted here before, but sometimes it’s nice to look back.

And here’s another one. Mark, that shriek you do on “I hooopppe….” while great for the sound of the song will shred your voice before you’re 30. I hope you don’t continue that little trick. Derek – HOT STUFF, baby.

Found this in a google alert this morning – and have no clue what it is or what it’s about and, frankly, work is going to be WAY to busy the next few days for me to even figure it out in the evenings. So, if someone else wants to do a little research….   Anyway, from The Lindays blog:

Since it’s for Utah, I would be inclined to think this is Derek giving back. But I have no clue.

The combination of being crazy busy at work (being a grown up with a real job, like, totally sucks – I worked today and yesterday even) and really only paying attention to Derek (like you all hadn’t noticed ) leads me to being a little behind in some news courtesy of Sam Marder.  Sam is officially my second favorite member of BHB for whom I could be tempted to throw Derek over because he’s just the cutest thing EVER (I’m really NOT 12…or even 20….it’s just fun to pretend once in a while).  And I’m not just saying that because he tweeted that he reads this page – he did that well after I declared my affection for him.  ::::waves to Sam::::  Anyway, because SO many of you have been asking me about BHB and because I was officially clueless up until reading Sam’s recent blog, I figured I would tell you that, according to Sam, BHB is officially done.  We had kinda figured that, but didn’t know for sure. As for what Mark and Derek are doing – well, that seems somewhat clear, to a point, but it doesn’t appear that even Sam knows how it’s going to end up.  Click to go to Sam’s MySpace and read his blog for yourself and give him a little love. Or a lot of love. And listen to his music.  Love ya, Sam.  I hope Derek and Harry didn’t get you into any trouble in London last night.

…to Move. I think they were trying to make a music video – well done, ladies. Note to self – always carry Derek’s music. I just wanted to congratulate everyone on working so hard and voting Derek into the top 25 on that little Mr. Twitter contest. Keep up the good work!! Here’s the link for those who have NO idea what I’m talking about. Mr. Twitter December – Derek is currently at number 21.

Since we are in the feast or famine days between seasons – and this is clearly a famine day – I thought I would post a little BHB video that you don’t even need sound for in order to get maximum enjoyment. As I was saying on Twitter – some of the SYTYCD’ers could take some notes from these HIPS.

…for some of you, maybe, but not for me. I don’t think I saw this video at the time it occurred. It’s an AOL video of Mark and Derek from last winter when they were touring with DWTS and BHB. For some reason, they are auto playing – hit pause on the one you’re not watching.

Seems like a long time ago, but it was only, like, May.  Because Derek is in London doing god knows what and DWTS is on hiatus, you all will have to suffer through selections of my favorite videos and stuff until we get something new. I’ll think of a game for us to play – maybe with prizes – but that could take me a few days and a few beers.

This video starts out as mainly Mark at the beginning, but at the 2:50 mark or so, it becomes worth the wait for Derek.  Love it.  Be sure to watch all the way to end for Derek’s acting (I think) abilities.

….all I see is Dizzy Feet. It’s a good thing he’s damn cute. I’m getting tired.
