This is a site for fans of Derek Hough. We try our best to compile all news, pictures, music and videos about and by Derek – if you find something you think we’ve missed, feel free to contact us. If you are a new fan of Derek’s and want to learn more about him, the “Accomplishments” and “Biography” buttons to the left contain pages of what we know (or think we know). ;-)
Also to the left is a music section where you can find music by Ballas Hough, Derek’s band, and songs that Derek has danced to on Dancing with the Stars. Complete with iTunes links.
If you want to see old posts, there are two ways: 1) by the media buttons to the left, or; 2) by month under the “Derek Archives” buttons also on the left-hand side of this page.
@Will_1031 tells me Derek and Mark will be on Dancing with the Disney Stars this Sunday at 7:30 eastern (6:30 central) – it appears to be a special involving the stars of Shake it UP, Bella and Zendaya.
This is just a tease for some upcoming information about DWTS on GSN. I am working on getting a bit more information – as soon as I know it, you’ll hear about it. From GSN:
GSN (Game Show Network) has an amazing gallery of stunning new original art—as well as revealing one-on-one, behind-the-scenes video interviews—with a buzzworthy group of DANCING WITH THE STARS celebrity alums and pro dancers from a variety of seasons, including reigning champ J.R. Martinez!
As we recently announced, GSN has acquired seasons 4-14 of DANCING WITH THE STARS, and we assembled a one-time only group of series veterans and dance pros to celebrate and promote our upcoming January 21 launch of the series.
…
GSN will kick off our airings of DWTS with Season 4 on Saturday, January 21, 2012, at 6:00pm ET/5pm CT. Season 4 episodes will air back-to-back every Saturday night on GSN through March 3, 2012.
GSN sent us some High Res photos for your enjoyment. They are in a gallery so you can view the full size – you know what to do, click twice.

Entertainment Weekly has a nice little write up – with corresponding poke at Maks – about DWTS on GSN. Nice picture too!! Visit EW to read the whole article.
Sorry I’ve been busy kids!! As a result there were a few little tid bits floating around that I missed. And when DWTS is on hiatus, tid bits are often what we have to settle for – I am hoping and praying that Derek has some stuff in the works for the New Year. I assume he does.
Anyway, as Vogue noted on PureDWTS, Derek and Mark went to see Robert Ackroyd of Florence and the Machine and it was reported by People.com:
Mark Ballas and his pal (and fellow DWTS pro) Derek Hough were in the mood for some music. The friends stepped out to the Living Room (inside the W Hollywood) to catch a jazz set by Robert Ackroyd, who plays guitar for Florence + the Machine.
If you are living any place where television and magazines are available, by now you know that not only did I compete on Dancing with the Stars, but I made it to the finals. My dance partner, Derek Hough, and I worked so tirelessly each week, trying to outdo ourselves with every turn, twist and shimmy. More than two weeks after the finale, I am still nursing bruised ribs, sore feet, black-and-blue marks and neck/shoulder injuries. The silver lining? My body is in fantastic shape, and I feel like I really accomplished something.
I believe I tweeted it, but never actually posted it – but Derek made Buddy TV’s Sexiest Men list. The slideshow is below…he’s number 41. Better than Maks but lower than Tristan….so wrong.
Last, but certainly not least…one of Derek’s former partners, Nicole, performed recently for the Royal Variety Show. Now, Nicole is a busy woman, performing all over the place and working on X Factor…but this?? Fan-frickin-tastic!! Good lord. When she said she was a trained singer, she wasn’t kidding.
Okay, there are several things floating around the net right now and lots of people have been asking me about all of them, so I figured I better post about all of them.
First – “Derek says he’s signed up for Season 14 of DWTS”. People, you know how this show works by now. The pros usually don’t know for sure until a few weeks before the show starts. IF Derek said “he’s signed” then it likely means that he’s signed a contract to do the show for season 14 – this does NOT mean that he will actually do it. They might not find a partner for him. He might have something else come up – we have no idea what any contract might entail. That said – he might not have even said that. This is a print article – unless you hear the words come out of Derek’s mouth, you can’t be sure it’s really true. Just a week or so ago, he said “probably” in regard to DWTS – that is not a “yes”….it’s a probably. I believe it’s also what Julianne said after her last season and we know how that turned out. This article came from the Las Vegas Weekly (or the Sun – both carried it) – and it also says that Derek says he was injured for the first time this season and we know that’s not true, right? Remember the neck injury?? Please don’t believe everything you read.
Pro champion Derek, who presented Submission of the Year, told me he’s signed on for the next season of “DTWS” that starts in March. He said that he was injured for the first time this season with a dislocated shoulder. “I still feel that,” he admitted. “I now know how the fighters feel. I admire their dedication and discipline — it’s the same as a dancer. There are a lot of similar techniques between the two sports. There’s a lot of dancing in MMA. … I love going to the bouts. I have hopped over to Vegas to watch many of them because my mom has lived here now for 13 years.”
Derek also cleared up my misunderstanding of his years spent here training at Las Vegas Academy. “No, that was Julianne [Hough, his sister]. She was here. I was 10 years in southeast London, but obviously came here many times for family events.” He’s excited about his debut 3D movie “Cobu” that he’s completed filming and will be released in the spring. Like Julianne in “Footloose,” this features him dancing.
Don’t forget to watch Derek on Live with Kelly on Monday!! This article from MTV News says Monday and Tuesday, but it might only be Monday. Hard to say.
With the likes of Neil Patrick Harris and Jerry Seinfeld having already stepped up, many more actors and musicians are now in line to co-host “Live!” according to ABC. On December 5 and 6, “Dancing With the Stars” pro Derek Hough will join Ripa, while singer Josh Groban will fill the spot on December 7, 8 and 9.
Before he goes to audition…I mean co-host with Kelly Derek is apparently going to the KIIS FM Jingle Ball tonight – heard it on Twitter from @Katie_Krause who is looking for good interview questions for Derek, among others. Remember her – she’s the one who did that great 10 Questions interview with Derek a while back. If you wanna watch a live stream of the carpet, go here —-> Red Carpet Stream
Lastly – I’ve had a few people tell me, with great joy, that Derek is now dating Nicole. While I love Nicole and think they would make an absolutely gorgeous couple, I kinda doubt this one is true. I think that they DO hang out together – Derek did say that of all his partners he had the most in common with Nicole – but I tend to think this is someone’s fantasy or wishful thinking. We will see, but again – please don’t believe everything just because someone on the web says it’s true. Would you believe ME if I said I was dating Derek??
Vogue is starting to beat me to the punch on articles – very annoying. From the Las Vegas Journal:
Derek Hough of “Dancing with the Stars” is one of People magazine’s “Sexiest Men Alive” now. But when he was a 10-year-old in Utah, kids bullied him for being a dancer.
“I would get in fights. I broke some kid’s nose. Well, he punched me first,” says Hough, who appears Wednesday at the World Mixed Martial Arts Awards at the Palms.
Hough, 26, remembers that particular fight well.
“He tapped me on the shoulder. I turned around. And he punched me,” he says.
“My nose was bleeding all over the place. All this blood filled up in my hand. I turned around and threw all this blood in this kid’s face. Then I started getting on him and I broke his nose.”
Awesome new interview – be sure to go to AOL TV to read the whole thing, but I’ve put my favorite bits below.
After Tuesday night, it’s a wrap for Season 13, so what are your post-season plans?
I’m going on a vacation, which I’m really excited about. That should be fun. I’m actually co-hosting ‘Live!’ with Kelly Ripa, which should be a lot of fun. Regis has always been a huge supporter of mine, and I always have a good time on the show.
You also recently wrapped a film project. Is that what you want to focus on? Do you want to do more acting?
Oh, absolutely. It’s just a matter of finding the time to do all of the things I want to do. I went to a theater arts school, so I’m interested in many different projects, whether it be film, television or even live theater. I’m a performer. That’s what I do. That’s what I want to do.
I hope you’re ready – you’re going to have to vote harder than ever!! Here’s a few reminders of how to vote. Tweet this post as often as possible without being annoying.
It’s a battle of the fanbases – let’s show them that #Drickilous has what it takes. Here’s a refresher – keep in mind that I have several people telling me you can vote the same accounts using different browsers:
Vote by Phone, number of votes per phone is usually equivalent to the number of dancers, but after week 8, it sticks at 5 votes per phone. Your cell phone, your boyfriend’s cell phone, your home phone….you get the picture. You only have until 30 minutes until after the show ends to get your phone votes in – but you can start as soon as the show starts. 1-800-868-3411
Vote On-line during and after the show….and till 11 eastern time the next morning. Now, you only get as many votes online as there are dancers… PER EMAIL address!! So, what do we do? We make more email addresses AND register/verify them with ABC.com. Google, Yahoo, Hotmail, whatever. Go to abc.com and look for the VOTE NOW banners!!!
If you are an AT&T customer, you can text VOTE to 3411
Did I leave anything out, Derek fans?? If you have problems voting by phone – like they say you’ve already voted all your votes using that phone and you know it’s not true – KEEP TRYING because there is a glitch in the system that makes that message says you’ve already voted play if the phone lines are overloaded. On-line issues? Close your browser and clear your cookies. If that doesn’t work, try a different browser, like Firefox or Google chrome or some such thing. Don’t give up!! THE SHOW IS ONLY ONE HOUR LONG, SO START PHONE VOTING RIGHT AWAY!!!
MOST OF ALL – never assume someone will be safe due to a high score or even if they happen to be near the top of the leader board. That is more true right at the beginning, but it’s not fool proof.
INTERNATIONAL FANS CAN VOTE TOO!!!!
Okay, I’ve had fans from other countries tell me that international fans can vote on DWTS. Here are some handy tools to help you figure out HOW to do it.
Getting to the website is easy enough – once you find DWTS on abc.com, when voting is open there are VOTE NOW banners on the site. VOTE TEAM D-Rickilous!!!
Voting is open on MONDAY’S in the U.S., from 8 pm EASTERN time until 11am EASTERN time Tuesday morning. Now, if you’re not sure what time it is in the U.S., check out The World Clock, sort by city and look at U.S. New York – that is the Eastern Time Zone. That will give you the actual current time in NYC. If you’re a geek like me, then you might also like The Time Zone Converter and World Time Zone Map.
You can vote with as many different email addresses as you have. So if you have, say, 15 gmail accounts, you can vote the alloted number of times with one, sign out, sign in with a different one, and vote again. If you need a US Zip Code to register an email address on ABC.com —-> US Zip Codes (aka Post codes) Just click on the map.
Can I just say….Derek is the sexiest man alive. For those of you unaware, Derek made the People Magazine Sexiest Men Alive list this year – and he got a WHOLE PAGE to himself. You may have seen a picture floating around, but trust me when I say – the magazine is WAY better. Hot. I may try to take a picture of it later. Anyway – not sure if a DWTS pro has gotten a full page to himself before or not, but before you know it Derek will have the COVER.
Derek talked to TV Guide about the finale – he seems more chill than ever before, which could lead to a pretty fun freestyle. There’s an excerpt below, but go to TV Guide to read it all:
Your freestyles are always fun. What do you have up your sleeve this time?
Hough: I do have an idea. I’ve been playing around with it in my head, but I haven’t put it to paper yet, so I don’t want to say it out loud. But I think it could be really cool if it all goes according to plan. We’ll see how it shakes out.
What do you think of Rob and J.R.? The show has played up your rivalry with J.R.
Hough: Yeah, but that’s all in fun. It’s nothing serious. We’re all really good friends and happy to be in the finals together. I think Rob in Week 1, you’d go, “He probably wouldn’t be in the finals.” I think he would say the same thing. But it’s literally been incredible to see how far he’s come, not just in dancing, but also as a person. But from Week 1, I definitely felt like J.R. would be here. He’s definitely the most natural as far as ability goes and I hope his ankle’s all right. I think he’ll be fine. With Rob and Ricki, they both started from ground zero. But there’s no rivalry between any of us. We said after [Tuesday's] show, “Let’s just have fun.” It’s going to be a happy final. We’re going to go out and have a good time and whoever wins wins.
There’s been some drama regarding the judges’ critiques, starting with Maks’ comments that turned into a supposed “feud” between you guys.
Hough: Which was weird! I’m not sure how that started. [Laughs] But the judges thing, I get it. The thing is, you do work so hard and it’s tough to get criticism. I get that, but it is their job to critique otherwise they’re obsolete. If they just said, “You did a great job, keep going,” they wouldn’t be doing their job. I do feel like as harsh as they’ve been, they have sandwiched it with nice comments and those were overlooked [in favor] of the negative comments.
Do you think they should tone down their negative remarks?
Hough: Well, the way I look at it is that the judges have been the same for 13 seasons. Nothing’s changed. So for me, they haven’t changed and they’re not going to change and they shouldn’t change, so I have to change the way I prepare my partner to face them every season. I say, “Listen, this dance might be amazing. I think you’re fantastic and I want you to believe you’re fantastic, but the judges might not like it and just be prepared for that. I just don’t want you to be surprised, so just enjoy it.” I mean, Bruno [Tonioli] puts his foot in his mouth a lot of times, but it’s fun because it’s live television. He definitely has said some things this season where I can see why people would take it personally, but he doesn’t mean it.
There’s a few people who could learn a few things from that last bit there. Next up, Derek and Ricki on Access Hollywood.
