Derek and Joanna placed 1st in the judges’ scores out of 16 couples for the two-night premiere.
Derek also placed 1st in Week 1 for Season 7.

Derek received his first “6” in 5 seasons. He has never before received a score of 20 or below.
His 7th place was the lowest placement he has ever had at the beginning of a DWTS competition.:-(

Derek and Joanna were in jeopardy, with 3 other couples, but escaped elimination.

Derek danced shirtless for the first time ever, to the thrill of the crowd. 🙂
Derek became very sick on Thursday of this week, threatening his ability to dance in Week 5.

Derek did not dance with Joanna due to the flu: he was replaced by Maksim Chmerkovskiy.*
This is the first time ever in his career that Derek has missed dancing due to illness.
Derek and Joanna were in jeopardy, with 3 other couples, but again escaped elimination.
Derek danced in a Michael Jackson Tribute on the Tuesday night Results Show.
He was a co-choreographer for the 1st and 3rd parts of the MJ Tribute dance.
LaToya Jackson said in an interview that Derek was Michael Jackson’s favorite dancer on DWTS.

Derek and Joanna turned in a lively and sizzling dance in the Mambo Competition, and their waltz was romantic and beautiful. 🙂
Derek and Joanna ranked 1st on the leader board due to their combined Waltz and Mambo competition scores.

This was the second week in a row that Derek and Joanna ranked in 1st place.
Derek and Joanna performed in an encore performance with Team Tango.
Derek and Mark Ballas sang and danced to their Ballas Hough single Move on the Tuesday Results Show.

Derek and Joanna danced a Futuristic Paso Doble that wowed the crowd, fans, and the media.
Bruno and Len told Derek that his choreography for the Paso was “genius”.
This dance earned the pair their highest score of the season, and their first double 10’s.
Their Futuristic Paso received the encore the following night.
The Paso, along with the Lambada, have been AOL’s Top TV 5.

Derek and Joanna danced a most beautiful, fairy-tale like Viennese Waltz, earning them the praises from the judges.
Despite ranking in 2nd place for the night, they were eliminated, and did not make the finals. 🙁
To date, Derek is the only pro in the history of DWTS to take each of his celebrity partners past the halfway mark of the competition.
Overall Score: 331/390 Season Average: 25.58 (Week 5 not included.)

Mambo Competition 10/10 Derek/Joanna won this competition giving them a combined score of 36/40, which placed them at the top of the leader board for the week

Salsa 9-9-9=27 Derek and Joanna’s overall score for the night was 81/90, placing them in 2nd place – eliminated
