The information just trickles out of this man very, very slowly. 
He says pretty definitively that he’s not on S16 but will be back for S17 – ARGGGHHH!! But there is a lot of time between now and then, so maybe other projects will come up. Please? Sorry folks, he’s not going to do better than Shawn Johnson and I’d rather see him expand his career instead of limit it on DWTS. He’s better than that show. Just my personal opinion. It doesn’t help that I am SO tired of DWTS and all the work that comes with it (for me).

I think i said this already: yeah DWTS is good, But honestly i believe Derek is destin for GREAT!

I hope he means to come back for result shows and some more Emmy worthy choreographies. I don’t really want to see him as a competitor on the show anymore. I feel like that journey is (or should be) over but you can never know. It is a good platform and he can pop up whenever he wants but not as a celeb’s partner. I miss watching him perform sooo much! Nowadays we only have these 2-3 minutes interviews which are not helping!
I would like to add one important thought here. I agree that Derek has outgrown DWTS and I would love to see him further his career and get other opportunities to better himself BUT if he retreats behind the camera to do directing, producing, choreography WE AIN’T GONNA get to SEE him.
And if he were to do movies, well, he won’t get starring roles right away so that means long stretches to see him do a few scenes in a bigger movie. Is that what you really want? Look how long it is taking COBU to get released. Do you want to wait months and years before you see him again?
Maybe it is selfish of me but much as I want to see him succeed and get the respect and accolades he deserves I also want to have a chance to see him more than one or two pro dances on DWTS per season.
So I have to leave it to Derek to choose wisely for himself and hopefully for all of us, so that there can be a balance of behind the camera and in front of the camera work. And that he should not give up DWTS until he has some other performing work firmly in hand.

I wouldn’t mind him doing pro dances when he “comes back” to DWTS like Julianne does when she promotes her movies… hint hint Derek!!! But I am so excited for all his projects and wish him all the love, luck, and success in the world! I am more excited about the scripted stuff than the non-scripted… I am soooo ready to see Derek do loves scenes after he tweeted that hot photo with BoA…;-)
As much as I love him on DWTS I agree that he has out grown that show. It’s time for bigger and better things for Mr HOugh
He said some things “coming back” when talking about acting roles. Maybe Dirty Dancing is a go again?? Hope so!!
If I heard correctly, he didn’t actually say he’d be back on S17. After saying he wouldn’t be on S16 he said, “… but I’ll be back on the show.” That could be anything. If he’s successful(which I totally assume he will be) in television production, even if it were somehow possible to squeeze DWTS onto his schedule I don’t think he’d want to do it because his time wouldn’t be unlimited, he wouldn’t be able to spend as much time as he thought the celeb deserved — couldn’t give it his best. Personally I can’t imagine him doing another season. It would be like going back to crawling after you’ve started to run.
