Perfectlyaged and Josephine- your words are my thoughts, too. Chemistry is something else than pure lust. Watching Derek and Maria to me was like watching Val and Kelly this season. I don’t enjoy it when people are throwing their lust at me, and that is what Derek and Maria did. I don’t know what is reality or reality tv between the two of them, but I did not like the game they were playing on dwts. I have loved Derek together with all of his partners, but not with Maria. His partnership with Shawn was extrordinary- their chemistry was so pure and playful. they seemed so content and happy together. It was beautiful to watch them bringing the best out of eachother. Although she is not his preferred physical type, I can only hope that he one day is willing to see beyond that and put a ring on her finger before she is gone forever.
Ashley, your comments on Shawn inform you comments on Maria. You aren’t an unbiased commenter. I saw no romantic chemistry between Shawn and Derek. I think a lot of fans confuse chemistry with romance when they don’t have to go together. As for Derek and Maria…to claim they were like Kelly and Val s pretty insulting and not even remotely true, IMO. I think you tear that relationship (and I don’t mean romantic) down to build up his relationship with Shawn (also not romantic).
I think he had great chemistry with both ladies but is in love with neither of them. Maria might be his physical type, but I don’t know that she is his emotional type. In any case, it’s a silly thing to argue about because he’s clearly dating neither.
Luckily enough it is not in my power to build up or tear down any if Derek’s relationships:-) But I agree – I think it is easy to confuse good chemistry and romance, and I really don’t think Derek and Shawn will ever have a romantic relationship. My point is that when two persons build eachother up like Shawn and Derek did, I think there could be a foundation for something more- even though I don’t think it will happen. When it comes to Derek and Maria it is my opinion that they crossed the same boundaries that Val and Kelly did. I am sorry if you think that is an insulting comment.

HeidiHo1013….To post the foundation of my thoughts about the chemistry between Derek and Shawn…I was partially judging Derek’s feelings toward Shawn by the film that showed Derek hugging Shawn and telling her he loved her and even spoke to the camera and said she had been a little light in his life and also a little spark. I am sorry you did not see this film nor did you apparently see the pictures of Derek and Shawn in New York standing on the street corner waiting on a cab!
Ashley and I have the same ability to judge what we saw on television as you do. Your statement that it is a silly thing to argue about…so why is your argument so emphatic and biased???
Oh brother. I’ve seen everything on Shawn and Derek and it doesn’t change my opinion. Of course he loves Shawn – you do realize that you can love people and not be IN love with them right? I’m sure he loves ALL of his partners.

Am I the only one that didn’t see this amazing chemistry between Shawn and Derek? Do not get me wrong they had amazing dances, but I saw their chemistry more as brother and sister over this romantic thing like I see on tumblr. I’ve gone back over and over multiple times watching their packages compared to his one with Maria. That is all.
Jordan…I believe you are confusing “amazing chemistry” between Derek and Maria with “lustful repertoire.”
I read other comments about how Derek and Maria could not keep their hands from roaming and that kiss was totally ill-placed in their dance. Derek treated Shawn with the lady like treatment she deserved and when it is all taken into consideration…Shawn ranked #1 in every way. As far as beauty, Shawn has an infectious smile and a beauty that was marvelous to behold…even though she seemed so unaware of her beauty! I don’t know who she is dating, but I hope he realizes the prize he has in Shawn! Kudos to her parents for the marvelous raising of their daughter.

To me Shawn & Derek’s is more like a hidden chemistry compared to Maria & Derek’s because of the differences between Shawn and Maria. Shawn is like a close book. She is private and It takes some time for her to get comfortable with someone whereas Maria is more open & flirtatious.
Plus, as a physical appearance Maria is Derek’s type of woman and also the age thing…Shawn is so young etc. So, it was easy to see that sexual / romantic chemistry with Maria. It was obvious from week 1. With Shawn, it was formed weekly. If you ask who is more like his ‘soul mate’? Who complements him the best? The answer is Shawn for me. 
I totally agree with results!! Shawn and Derek did have the best chemistry. It was shame that they didn’t win!!! Best couple in DWTS history!!!!
Couldn’t agree more. I was happy when Derek got a new partner because otherwise It wouldn’t be very surprising for us and also for him. She brought happiness,success and confidence to him and vice versa. Between the fake showmance and ‘they have never won before’ drama, their story kind of got lost because they didn’t dramatize anything and so many people didn’t notice. Their perfect dancing+story made this season special. They are the best couple in the dwts history.:)
Totally agree: Shawn and Derek had the best chemistry. Their chemistry was funny, genuine and sweet. They brought out the best in eachother. They inspired eachother, and he didn’t loose his temperatur together with her. When he was struggling with the bhangra dance, she kept calm and collected. Loved them together- a perfect match!
Shawn proved herself to be first in EVERY way. As far as chemistry…they both displayed a chemistry for each other and Shawn gave a persona and aura to their dancing that I did not detect with Derek’s other partners.
I loved Shawn and Derek as a pair!!!!!
