Looks to me like he’s shooting/directing either a segment for DWTS or for some other show about young Utah dancers. Very interesting, though. I can’t wait to see what it’s about. Maybe this is what he meant when he said he would always be involved with DWTS “in some way”. Good for him…but I hope we still see that gorgeous face and enormous talent in front of the camera as well. 
I can’t wait to see what this is all about. Anyone have the scoop?? I haven’t gone digging yet, but I will.

he is so happy and enjoying what he is doing can’t gelp but grinn just looking at him! I agree with all of u guys i do think this has something to do with what Jules mentioned! But only me guessing here! Can not wait to see what this is about!

I would also guess this is for something Derek and Julianne are producing based upon Derek directing and the small film crew. It looks like he’s filming reality dance segments. I am not sure why I am getting the idea of a hybrid reality and scripted show about dancers. I guess bc Julianne mentioned both recently. Since he’s filming this, I am picturing “Glee” and “Glee project” merging into 1 show so he and Julianne act in the main fictional storyline, but there would also be segments of real dancers auditioning to join the show who get voted on? Just the vibe I’m getting from the pics. But, who knows. He may be filming a video for Utah Arts commission.
Someone asked me on Twitter if this was a pilot for something. No idea, but it is not currently listed in the pilots being shot this season so far, per Hollywood Reporter.
Networks usually order pilots off scripts, but sometimes a production company will use their own $ to film basically a teaser for a show so networks can get a feel for the idea they’re proposing. I wish I could think of more examples, but the only one coming to mind rt now is Rob Thomas made a teaser for a new Veronica Mars concept/format with her older & in the FBI to try to convince the network to renew as nearly a brand new show. It is on youtube now. It is only a few scenes in a different setting to show the character in the new storyline. If that is what he’s filming this for, then it isn’t a pilot ordered by a network which would end up reported by HR. Although it could totally be an Utah Arts commission project. Just throwing out the teaser idea bc it was what first came to me.
I know, Rose – my point is that the timing is rather off if that’s what he’s doing. If he’s just now shooting a teaser video for a show then it seems he’s behind the schedule. Shooting a teaser to get someone else to order a pilot when the list of pilots ordered by various companies is already REALLY long. I suppose there is still time – and THR did say they would continue to update the pilot list as the season progressed. I’ll just keep looking at it hoping to see something similar to what Jules was talking about. Do we know the name of their production company?? It seems like I’ve heard it but can’t remember what it is.

If that’s what this is, I don’t think the timing is off or he’s behind schedule bc pilots will be ordered all during early spring and turnaround is usually pretty quick on pilots. (Obviously that depends upon the production company. A bigger one will spend more $ on a pilot and take more time with it if they think it’ll be a hit.) The main issue is to have it available for viewing along with the other pilots before pickups are decided in May. If that’s what this is, Derek and Julianne probably already have a pilot script they’ve shopped around to the development offices, and what I was thinking is that they might have received interest but also skepticism from the development offices about how this would play out and they decided to spend some $ to film a teaser to show the concept to entice a pilot order. Or it could be something else entirely. LOL. It’s just if Derek is the boss of the crew, it makes me think it’s for the show they’re producing.
This is very cool.. Elara, I’m hoping this has something to do with the scripted show he and Julianne are working on . He’s incredibly talented and directing seems to come natural for him. Can’t wait to hear more about this project. Go Derek!!
can this be the project Jules was talking about in a recent interview? that show Jules mentioned she is working on with her brother? as i see it from his tweets and photos, he is looking for young dancers… any way….he looks just as good behind the camera as he looks in front of it..and with his vision…i am sure it (whatever he works on) will turn out amazing!
