New Derek Interview with Fancast

Why do you think Jennifer is doing so well? You’ve been on top the leader board for the first two weeks and tied for second in Week 3.
She’s not a trained dancer by any means, but she definitely has dancing in her body and she’s in great shape, which helps. She’s physically fit, willing to learn, and has a great head on her shoulders, so it makes it easier for me to teach her. You can do a lot with that. Hopefully we can maintain that.

What’s the hardest part of working with Jennifer?
Honestly, I keep forgetting she’s 50. So when I start choreographing and throwing her around and I’m doing this and I’m like, ‘Wow. She looks really exhausted. Oh, yeah. Oh shoot, she’s 50! Crap. I gotta slow down a little bit.’

How do Jennifer Grey and Nicole Scherzinger differ?

With Nicole, if I made her mad, she would dance great. With Jennifer, if I make her mad or upset, she shuts down completely. I have to constantly adapt how I am with my partners. One thing I love about Jennifer is she’s here to dance and to learn how to dance. She’s really here for the process and I feel that, I love that.

And the most intriguing part:

What’s up with the Ballas Hough band?

Right now Mark Ballas has an album coming out. I have some other things I’m doing – not music-related – but I can’t really talk about it yet.

The most interesting part of this interview to me is where Derek says he’s doing something else, not music related…hope it’s acting. I’d really love to see him act…still wish they’d do a remake of The Thomas Crown Affair…I can picture Derek as Thomas Crown (was orginally played by Steve McQueen).

I hope he has a film role coming up. Derek is a natural at acting, with a big future ahead of him if he wants it. But I do miss his music a whole lot. It’s strange to me how he’s totally quit music when he always said it was his biggest passion. Music’s a tough business and I do think he should do acting, but he can easily and successfully do both. But unfortunately, I think Derek doesn’t realize his talent as a musician and what he could be if he went solo too. He’s so dedicated to promoting Mark’s music, it’s like he doesn’t believe in his own talent. It’s sad when so many people always preferred Derek’s voice. He has to do what makes him happy, but he always said music did, so I can’t believe he doesn’t miss it. I just hope he gave up music for the right reasons. I’m a big music lover and miss his voice so much, so I selfishly want him to give me some music. But I wish Derek the best of luck in whatever he decides to do, and hope I’m in a theater this time next year watching him on the big screen!

  • I absolutely love this guy!!! Whatever his new adventures are I will be supporting him. I agree with the comment that I hope it is here and not the U.K. I wouldn’t mind if he did something with music though. He is so talented he could choose a number of things. Must be rough! :)

I hope it’s movies or more TV projects (focusing on him!). . .LOL!

I agree Melissa. I liked how he answered that question especially since I saw on the ABC message board in particular complaining about it. They don’t give him credit that he is just good. I am intrigued on his new opportunity. I bet its the big screen like his sis.

I agree Lisa. I thought he gave a hint in an interview a while back about what he was working on. He said he would like to get into acting and didn’t bring up music. Let’s go to the big screen!

I like how he answered the partner question. He should get more credit for doing well. Other pros have gotten just as good partners but sometimes have choked. I wonder what his new opportunities over? I just hope they are in the U.S. and not the U.K.

I bet he is starting to get into acting like his sis!
